Recreation Therapy
The recreation therapist provides patients with individualized leisure activities that incorporate and reinforce skills needed to obtain rehabilitation goals. The therapist assists patients in adapting previous leisure activities or discovering new ones. The recreation therapist assesses a patient’s social interaction, memory and problem solving. The treatment plan may include pet therapy and off-campus community outings in a specially equipped van to practice skills in a real-life situation. Therapeutic recreation supports a patient’s return to home and community in an independent and healthy lifestyle.
