Externship Program

Hillcrest Medical Center’s AORN’s Perioperative Nursing Course 101 Residency

This program will prepare the new RN for entry into employment in the areas of Surgical Services. This residency program gives the new nurse the opportunity to learn from all the areas covered by surgical services. The nurse will spend time in each unit observing the staff and participating in patient care.

The specific units include:



Nursing students or recent RN graduates who have committed to joining the Hillcrest HealthCare System team will receive the NCLEX review course at no charge. HHS pays your fees. The review course will be held twice a year, in January and May.


Residency Program

The Critical Care areas of HMC consist of Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and Burn Intensive Care Unit.


Surgical Nursing

The Medical/Surgical units at Hillcrest Medical Center (HMC) are designed to provide the best possible treatment and care for a wide variety of illnesses and injuries. Each unit specializes in a focused area of medical/surgical nursing care. Patient care delivery is provided through a team approach utilizing a wide variety of disciplines.

Hillcrest Medical Center (HMC) offers scholarship monies for employees and students to become better educated and more highly skilled through continued education. Educational assistance in the form of a scholarship may be obtained for courses of study which are directly related to the current employment needs of the institution. The monies received as scholarship may be considered taxable income.
